Storage Capacity & Forecast
Follow how each storage grows, see the day it will be full, and give a size to a NAS share that does not report one.
Real-world screenshots:
A usage history for every storage
Each storage keeps a usage history: the space the storage reports, or else the total size of its root folder each time you calculate it. When no reading is less than a day old, the app measures the storage in the background while you are not using it, and stops as soon as you start a transfer, a search or a scan.
- Measure now takes a reading at once.
- Only when I ask stops the app from measuring on its own; the totals you calculate and Measure now still count.
- A calculated figure is marked ≈.
This week's growth and the day it will be full
Once a storage has a few days of history, its inspector on the Storages page shows how much it grew this week and when it will be full. Its capacity window adds a chart over 7, 30 or 90 days with the daily rate and the days it reaches 80, 90 and 100 %. Pointing at the chart shows each day's usage, and the days ahead as estimates at the current rate.
A storage that does not report its size
Many SMB, SFTP or WebDAV servers do not say how large they are. Open the storage's capacity window from its inspector and enter the size of its disk, from a preset or as an exact size in GB or TB: the app then shows its free space and how full it is. A combine or union storage works the same way: enter its size, and the app calculates what its branches use.
A NAS share whose figures are wrong
A share on a parent ZFS dataset, as on TrueNAS, can report only a few kilobytes in use. For an SMB, SFTP, FTP, WebDAV, HDFS, local or union storage in that case, choose Entered size, measured usage in its capacity window: the app measures the space its folders use against the size you enter. Figures from the service brings the reported figures back.
Tip :Cloud storages report the space of the whole account, so they keep their own figures.
Tip :An alias or crypt of a folder on such a storage gets the same choice and then measures that folder.
The dashboard ranks what fills up first
The Storage usage block of the dashboard ranks storages of known size by how soon they will be full, with this week's growth and the full date under each bar. It keeps totals reported by services apart from estimated ones, points out a storage that will be full within a month or is 90 % full, and opens its chart when you click it.
