Media Details & File Hashes

Read the codecs, tracks and HDR of a video, audio or image file from its Properties, on any storage and without downloading it, and check its MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256.

Open the MediaInfo tab

Right-click a video, audio or image file, choose Properties, then the MediaInfo tab.

Tip :MediaInfo details require Pro. The file's other properties, including its hashes, stay available in the free version.

What the summary shows

The Overview gives the container, the title, the duration and the overall bit rate. Each track follows with the fields that apply to it:

  • Video: codec, profile, resolution, frame rate, bit depth, HDR format and bit rate
  • Audio: codec, channels and their layout, sampling rate, language and title
  • Subtitles: format, language, title, and whether the track is Default or Forced
  • Images: format, resolution and bit depth

Tip :Subtitles are read as tracks inside the file. A separate .srt file next to a film is not analyzed.

MediaInfo's own reports

A menu above the details switches from Summary to MediaInfo's own reports. Detailed lists every field it found, track by track. Text, JSON and XML show its report as code, with Copy report to paste it into a forum post, a bug report or a script.

Integrity hashes

The General tab of Properties lists the file's integrity hashes, one line each, such as the MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 that Google Drive keeps, with a button to copy each one.

  • For larger files, or storages that keep no hash, a button computes the MD5, SHA-1 or SHA-256 you choose.
  • When the storage cannot compute it, the file is downloaded and hashed as it arrives. Nothing is saved.
